WW2 IN THE BALKANS ACTUAL HISTORY – Grupa autora
This book references facts that until now were inaccessible in English. There are several reasons for that state of affairs. First, non-Serbian researchers rarely made use of local archives because of the language barrier. Second, as a practical matter, when referring in their books to events that took place in the Balkans, they were limited to the sources at hand. That was primarily the version systematically disseminated by Communist Yugoslavia in the translations of its authors’ narrative into the English language. Third, initially at least English-speaking authors did not necessarily find that regime-inspired version awkward because it was their countries’ governments that helped undermine the democratic system in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Hence, the message of this book is exceedingly simple: let’s start from the beginning!
Cilj ove knjige je da ispriča neke priče kojih do sada nije bilo na engleskom govornom području. Nije ih bilo iz više razloga. Prvo, strani pisci nisu dolazili u lokalne arhive, zbog jezičke barijere. Drugo, oni su ipak morali da u fusnotama svojih knjiga navode i nešto sa Balkana, a to je bilo jedino što su mogli da nađu – verziju koju je komunistička Jugoslavija sistematski širila prevodima na engleski. Treće, autorima sa engleskog govornog područja ta verzija u prvo vreme i nije bila previše strana, jer su baš njihove države pomogle Titu da sruši demokratski poredak Kraljevine Jugoslavije. Zato je poruka ove knjige jednostavno: Hajdemo sve iz početka!
